BusinessLife Case Study: Month 3 of Palm Beach Content Co.

In Month 2 of the Palm Beach Content Company case, Vanessa struggled to find the correct path for her business. She felt trapped and unable to move her company forward. Through Peter’s actionable 5-4-3-2-1 program, she was able to add 10 clients to her pipeline and make her first in-house strategist hire!

She used her experience from Month 2 to get out the door and do what had to get done in order to move her business forward. She hit the ground running, and she was ready for more successes.

Results are just results

When Month 3 rolled in, Vanessa was equal parts elated and grounded. She realized that her business was no longer just a plan. Her company was growing and expanding quickly. She was in business, and she was focusing every hour on bringing in revenue.

Peter told her, “Facing the truth is a vital part of Month 3. Results are just results, what’s important is what you do with those results.”

And that is exactly what happened. Vanessa was facing the truth of her business. She was growing quickly, and she needed to figure out ways to scale in tandem with her growth.

The Rate of Growth

Vanessa decided to focus on a two-fold strategy moving forward: build her business model and grow in-house content and strategy. With that, Vanessa became open to expanding her service offerings in order to gain exposure and increase revenues.

In Month 2, she had considered pivoting her business entirely. However, she determined that was not the right decision for her. Now, in Month 3, she was growing her revenues by pivoting in tandem with the growth of her company. Palm Beach Content Company had developed quickly, moving from an idea to a full-fledged business in two short months. She was developing a brand and a reputation.

She wondered if it was moving too quickly. She wondered if she would be able to maintain her business model at this rate of growth.

She needed proof of her brand.

Procedure: A Study In Results

Vanessa was invited to lead “Content Marketing 101,” an event for the West Palm Beach technology community. She received heaps of positive feedback, and even a few new client leads for her content packaging services. She loved teaching others her passion and expertise, while also growing her business at the same time.

“Content Marketing 101” gave her a fresh perspective to see her business in a new light. She recognized that people are highly interested in digital marketing services. With her experience in content marketing, this helped her uncover a new opportunity in her competitive market. She realized an opportunity to educate her peers about strategy and marketing.

She discovered that people see the value in content strategy but not the urgency. They talk about the importance of growing their content database without following through on it. She wondered why people in the technology world especially were struggling to grow their content marketing within their companies.

Vanessa had clarifying conversations with her peers, and she discovered even more enlightening results. She recognized the opportunity to deliver more substantive information through these seminars, so people can see the true value and investment of content strategy.

Interpreting Her Results

With this new information from “Content Marketing 101,” it was time for Vanessa to interpret her results. She began to recognize the opportunity of creating a demand for content marketing—starting in her local community. She unlocked four key opportunities for Palm Beach Content Company:

Opportunity 1: Train writers to be more versatile with their content.

Opportunity 2: Build a network for different industries. Utilize the skills that her team of writers gains by working with her business.

Opportunity 3: Course correct and pivot by including digital marketing services that are centered on a centralized content marketing strategy.

Opportunity 4: Educate the local area on the importance of content marketing. Be a prime example of a successful business using content strategy.

Within these opportunities, she felt confident in her expertise in this field. She decided to further establish herself as an authority in the content marketing space. She would use her knowledge to optimize on these opportunities in order to grow her own business as well as help the businesses in her local area.

Substantiations: Using Her Interpretations

After interpreting the results of leading “Content Marketing 101,” Vanessa thought of Peter’s coaching towards the three satisfactions. She needed substantive satisfaction. She asked herself: What am I going to do with these results?

Ultimately, results are just results until interpreted, proven, and acted upon.

She plans to implement her results moving forward in Month 4. She has decided to set SMART goals that will employ the four opportunities in Palm Beach Content Company.

Working with Peter as her coach has helped Vanessa open herself up to new leads. He helped her gain the confidence she needed to speak at “Content Marketing 101,” which gave her new ideas and perspectives for her company’s growth.

“With Peter, I have gotten the opportunity to effectively assess everything from my first two months. I have implemented the 5-4-3-2-1 approach in a smart way. I have been more outgoing. And I’ve made things happen in order to build my network and my business.”

Month Three Results

Vanessa’s third month centered on the realization that sometimes it can take longer than expected to get into the groove of a business. There are a lot of learning curves when launching a company.

When faced with this realization, it is important to learn how to navigate these challenges through substantive results. Maybe you need to pivot, move into new offerings, or expand your market. In Month 3, your business should realize some harsh truths while focusing on future growth.

With these realizations also comes the recognition of effort. Vanessa understood all that it took to make things happen, and it was time for her to sit back and be proud.

At the end of the third month, it’s time to plan for the next three months. It’s time to take a step back and say: what’s next?
